The 2023 Flag Football Spring Season is upon us. If your child is looking for some gridiron glory this spring, below is all the information you should need.

REGISTRATION

Registration begins on February 7 at 9am. You can register your child at Farmington Recreation. The fee for spring flag football is $110. Registration will close on March 31. After this, you will be contacted and asked to register a second time on our TeamSnap site. This is for team placement and where parents will find weekly game information.

Keep in mind, flag football has become really popular and it fills up quickly, so it is likely all spots will be filled before the March 31 deadline. If you miss getting a spot, please go on the waitlist. Spots do open up and some will come off the waitlist.

COED & GIRLS ONLY

This past fall, we put together our first ever All-Girls division. This spring, we’re looking to have even more. Keep in mind, girls are NOT required to play in the Girls only division. In the fall, some girls played in the All-Girls division, while others played in the Coed. It’s up to each child.  However, having an All-Girls division can only happen if we get enough girls. Last fall, we got enough for Grades 6-8, but came up a little short for Grades 3-5. If you register your daughter for the All-Girls division and we fail to get enough players, you will decide to either switch to the Coed division or get your money back and try again in the fall.

DIVISIONS

When you register, you will register your child in either Grades K-1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grades 5-6 or Grades 7-8. However, these can change by the time the season starts. How we break up the divisions will be based on how many players register and also how many coaches we get. It’s possible grades 5-6 could be broken up or Grades three and four are combined. We won’t know until after registration is over.

DATES

We play six games in the spring session. The first game will be the Sunday after the public school’s spring break, which is April 23. The final game will be June 4. There will not be any makeup dates, as there is simply no time. We are also off for Memorial Day Weekend. Sadly, we can’t take off for Mother’s Day, but moms…we do appreciate all that you do.

LOCATION & TIME

All games for the spring will be played at Irving A. Robbins Middle School. All our games are on Sunday morning. The first games kick off at 8:30 and the last games can end as late as 1:30. Typically, our oldest divisions play earlier and the younger kids play last.

PRACTICES

We understand that typical spring sports like baseball, Lacrosse and hockey can occupy a lot of time, so there will be no weekday practices. Instead, coaches will hold a 30-45 minute practice before their schedule Sunday game. Having said that, it’s not unusual for coaches to put together one weekday practice before the season starts as a way to meet the players, give them their jerseys and introduce them to the plays they will run on Sunday.

COACHES

On average, we can have anywhere from 30-36 teams in a season. This means we need 30-36 parents to step up and volunteer each session to coach a team. For those who have not done it, it can be a little intimidating. Fact is, this sport didn’t even exist when we were young. However, anyone interested, but would like more information can email me at robflagfootball@gmail.com. I would be happy to provide a ton of helpful information.

SPRING SESSION vs FALL SESSION

The fall season is our competitive session. Teams are drafted, we keep score and we kept track of the standings. Teams go to the playoffs and the champions earn trophies. Good times. However, the spring session is considered more relax. There are no standings and we don’t care what the final score is. There are no playoffs, no trophies and again, no weekday practices. It’s an opportunity to teach, learn and have fun. In the older divisions, the coaches often just let their kids call their own plays.
