The 2022 Fall Flag Season has begun. Next up, the spring session…

REGISTRATION

Registration for fall ball has ended, as the season has begun. We don’t have a time set for spring registration, but it will most likely begin at the end of January and run through March. Decisions will start to get made at the end of 2022.

In the past, registration was a two-step process and it still is, but now we just do one at a time. To register, please do it at Farmington-Recreation. Once you pay, you’re in. If you’re late to the game and find yourself placing your child on the waitlist, don’t panic. Some kids do come off the waitlist. Often the amount of kids we allow in is determined by how many parents volunteer to coach. The more coaches we have, the more teams we can create. Math!

Once registration ends, I will reach out to all parents and have them register a second time on the Team-Snap page. This is not only how we communicate with everyone, but this is where you get the rosters, schedules and game times.

PRESEASON EVALUATION

In the fall session, we run a preseason player evaluation for all players. This typically happens the Sunday before the first day of school at the end of August. For spring session, there is no preseason evaluation. However, if your son or daughter has never played for us before, we might ask parents for some information regarding their playing experience and ability. While spring is not our competitive session, we still strive for balance.

PRACTICES

During the fall session, coaches will hold one weekday practice. To try to avoid bumping into other sports, we ask our coaches to hold their practices on Friday. Now, it is not unusual for one or two coaches to maybe do it a different day, but that’s often knowing they can get every kid to that practice. Where practices will be held is still TBD, but all practices will be held in the Town of Farmington. In spring, there are no weekday practices. Instead, coaches will run 30-minute practices before the Sunday games.

SCHEDULES

Below is the schedule for the fall season…

JUNE 1 – OPEN REGISTRATION
JUNE 31 – END OF REGISTRATION
AUGUST 28 – PLAYER EVALUATION
SEPTEMBER 11 – WEEK ONE
SEPTEMBER 18 – WEEK TWO
SEPTEMBER 25 – WEEK THREE
OCTOBER 2 – WEEK FOUR
OCTOBER 16 – WEEK FIVE
OCTOBER 23 – WEEK ISX
OCTOBER 30 – PLAYOFFS: ROUND ONE
NOVEMBER 6 – PLAYOFFS: SEMIFINALS & FINALS

We are off for both Labor Day weekend and Columbus Day Weekend. In total, every player will play seven games, because every team makes it into the playoffs. However, some teams will have Oct 30th off because they earned a bye-week in the postseason. Spring session does not have a schedule yet.

GAME TIMES/LOCATION

Obviously, we don’t have game times yet. However, we play all our games on Sunday morning. The older players typically go first, while the younger kids player late morning. The last two seasons we have been able to sneak on a night game. In 2020, we played some games on Friday night under the lights. In 2021, we actually played our semifinals and finals on Sunday night under the lights. The players get a kick out of it, so I’ll try to do it again this year, but I won’t know if it is possible until late August.

As for location, all games will be played at Farmington High School. Half the games will be played on the turf, while the other half are located on the grass, above the turf.

HEAD COACH WANTED

We need ’em. It is that simple. On average, we need about 34 parents to volunteer to be a head coach of a team. The more coaches I have, the more players get to play. If anyone has any question about coaching, you are welcome to email me anytime: robflagfootball@gmail.com.
